J’ai appris
à tricoter (plus ou moins) à l’âge de 8 ans, mais ce n’est qu’à 33 que je
termine ma première paire de chaussettes! Alors maintenant que je suis
complètement séduite par les bas de laine, est-ce que ça veut dire que j’ai 25
ans de chaussettes à rattraper? Honnêtement, j’espère que oui! Une fois que je
me suis remise du fait que de tricoter des chaussettes m’obligerait à PILER sur
son beau tricot (l’horreur!!) et que, admettons-le pleinement, il était temps
que je surmonte la paresse et apprennent une nouvelle astuce, c’était plutôt
facile!
So if I learned to knit at age 8, but only knit my first
pair of socks at 33, does that mean I have 25 years of sock knitting to catch
up on? I kind of hope so! Now that I’m finally and completely charmed by
handknitted socks, I can’t fathom what took me so long. Well, that’s not quite
true. I had a really hard time getting over the fact that I’d be literally
stepping on my knitting. I loathe seeing pills on my handknits just from gentle
wear, how would I handle walking all over it?! But I’m over that now. I
think.
Le patron est l’excellent Wildflower and Honeycomb Socks d’Olivia Villareal. J’imagine que ce n’est pas rien écrire un patron pour chaussettes qui est facile à réaliser par une débutante! La laine bleu-mauve est la Basic Sock de la compagnie Red Sock Blue Sock, qui si je ne me trompe pas se situe très près de chez moi! Le projet était tellement agréable travailler (et assez portable pour le transporter dans mon plus petit sac à main) que j’ai cédé aux aiguilles doubles pointes que j’évite habituellement à tout prix. Laissée emportée par mon enthousiasme j’en ai même depuis acheté d’autres!
The pattern is the Olivia Villareal’s Wildflower andHoneycomb Socks. I bet it’s quite a feat to write a sock pattern, even more so
one that can be understood by a complete sock newbie like me. They were such a
delight to knit I didn’t even mind using double pointed needles (in fact I went
on a little DPN needle shopping spree after completing the first sock). The
beautiful speckled yarn is Basic Sock’s April Showers colourway, from the RedSock Blue Sock Company.
Imaginez-vous mon bonheur total lorsque je me suis rendue compte que tous ces écheveaux de laine fingering dans mon stash pourrons désormais devenir de jolis bas!
I have quite a bit of the skein left over, which I can’t wait to use as contrast yarn in a future pair of socks. Imagine my excitement when I realized that all of the fingering yarn in my stash can actually become socks? It’s like Christmas over here :)
