Il y a longtemps que j'avais ajouté Willoughby à ma queue sur Ravelry et lorsque je m'étais décidée de tricoter une écharpe en cadeau de Noël il n'y avait pas question de réaliser un autre modèle, quoique ma laine choisie était bien plus mince et que ma date d'échéance arrivait à grands pas. Ma mère étant plutôt  petite préfère une écharpe moins large afin de pouvoir bien l'enrober autour du coup, je ne m'inquiétait pas trop de substituer une laine fingering - surtout que c'était la merveilleuse Handmaiden Casbah Sock - et des aiguilles de 4mm! Mais je craignais que tricoter les moitiés indépendamment et ajouter une bordure aux deux bouts pas la suite auraient pris plus de temps que j'avais sur les mains. 

 Willoughby has been in my Ravelry queue from the minute it was released so when I'd decided to knit my mom a scarf I was pretty determined to make the pattern work not only with the fingering weight yarn I had on hand, but also with a rather tight 2-week deadline. I generally avoid provisional cast-ons (mine nearly always look wonky) and wasn't at all interested in knitting two mirrored halves with knitted on end borders if I could avoid it. Since lace knitting always requires my full attention (no TV or audiobooks this time!) I wasn't up to also counting repeats and weighing my yarn to figure out exactly when I'd reached half the ball.



Alors j'ai simplement tricoté le tout d'un bout à l'autre (jusqu'à ce que j'ai pu l'enrober autour du coup une fois confortablement) et omis les bordures aux extrémités. Je trouve l'écharpe hyper jolie même sans ces bordures et la modification a fait en sorte que j'ai pu tricoter le tout aisément sans compter le nombre de répétitions de bordures.

 So I simply cast on the lovely merino-cashmere Handmaiden Casbah Sock with US6 needles and knit until I could comfortably wrap the scarf around once around my neck. My mother is very petite and overheats easily, so I wanted to keep it as airy and light as possible. I then simply cast off with larger needles and omitted any additional lace border for the ends. This meant I was able to finish in time – although barely - and I love it like this, I don't feel as though it's missing anything at all!

J'étais si pressée cette année à terminer mes projets à temps pour les fêtes que j'ai prises les photos rapido-presto avant de vite envelopper mes petits paquets de laine.  Ils ne sont pas tous terminés, j'ai un UFO toujours en cours, mais j'ai presque tout réussi! 

 I was in such a hurry trying to finish the gift knitting in time this year that I was lucky to take a few moments to photograph each piece before wrapping. I haven't quite checked off each project off my list, there's one left in progress, but I've accumulated a small pile of undocumented Fos!

Je ne sais pas trop ou commencer, alors je tire au hasard. Ce col est une version chunky de mon Triangles Cowl. J'ai choisi la laine Loops and Thread Cozy Wool, des aiguilles circulaires de taille US 13 et j'ai montée 132 mailles. Je n'ai complété que 3 répétitions du motif des triangles. Je trouvais que le col manquait toujours un p'tit quelque chose je ne sais quoi alors j'ai ajouté une bordure improvisée au crochet par la suite. Je trouve que ça donne un look un peu plus délicat malgré la laine chunky, non?

 I'm not sure where to start, so let's pick at random. This is a chunky version of my Triangles Cowl. I used  Loops and Thread Cozy Wool, US 13 circular needles, and cast on 132 stitches to accommodate the large difference in gauge. I only completed three repeats of the triangle chart before binding off. As with last time, blocking was essential to get a smooth fabric. Still, I felt something was missing, so I improvised a crocheted border. I like it! It kind of adds a bit of a feminine touch despite the chunky yarn, you know?

Vous connaissez ces projets qui devraient être simples et rapides à exécuter? Qui nécessitent seul des capacités et les matériaux que l’on possède déjà? Ouf, qu’ils peuvent être trompeurs! Ma machine à coudre, qui malgré avoir été achetée d’occasion ne m’a jamais laissé tomber. Jusqu’à la semaine dernière. Je ne vais quand même pas vous ennuyer avec le bilan des petits pépins de ma machine à coudre, mais si quelqu’un a de l’expérience avec les caprices d’une Bernina model Activa, en autres tension et longueur de point irrégulières, je vous prie de m’envoyer un mail, j’aimerais bien savoir s’il  y a une solution (simple et non-dispendieuse serait extra!).

 You know those projects that should be quick and easy to complete and require only skills and materials already in your arsenal? They can be the most misleading, right? My Bernina might have been purchased used, but it has never let me down. Until last week. I won’t bore you with the details of my sewing machine’s every glitch, but if you have a Bernina Activa model and have had problems with uneven tension and inconsistent stitch length or misbehaving feed-dogs, please email me, I’d love to hear of there is an easy fix! (please please please tell me it’s an easy and inexpensive fix). I’ve played with every combination of bobbin and thread tensions (top and bottom) with little success, and the stitch length consistency doesn`t improve with the walking foot. 


Fabriqués pour une de mes meilleures amies qui raffole du mauve et des libellules, ces sous-verres ils sont réversibles avec un côté pastel et l’autre avec cet insecte qui, si je suis parfaitement honnête, me donne la chair de poule. Mais bon, les goûts ne se discutent pas!  J’ai suivi un tuto de www.iheartnaptime.net/ , et malgré les difficultés mécaniques de la machine, c’est vraiment un projet hyper simple et parfait pour ces petits restants de tissus précieux. Si j’ai le temps avant les fêtes, j’aimerais bien en faire quelques-uns de plus avec des petits bouts de tissus mignons de Heather Ross. À suivre!

 Made for a dear friend who loves dragonflies and the colour purple, the coasters are reversible with pastel shades on one side and bold dragonflies on the other. To be honest, dragonflies, like most insects, give me the willies… but this being a Knit BUG blog, I’m trying to embrace all critters. Having never made coasters before I followed this excellent tutorial by http://www.iheartnaptime.net/, and should my machine woes clear up before the holidays I hope to make a few more! The perfect way to make use of those precious fabric scraps like my little Heather Ross gnomes waiting patiently in stash… To be continued!

J’arrive à croiser des items sur ma liste de cadeaux à bricoler! En voici un tout récent, une version du Spinster Slouch pour ma nièce, modifié pour mieux correspondre à cette laine filée à la main. J’ai dû monter moins de mailles et remplacer les câbles 9x9 avec des câbles 7x8. Finalement, ce n’était pas une bonne idée et que je ne recommande pas du tout cette modification - bien trop mêlant et incompatible avec les côtes 3x3. À refaire, je choisirais une laine qui correspond à celle utiliser dans le patron original afin d’adhérer aux câbles et côtes telles qu’écrits. 

 I’m actually crossing off items from the Christmas Crafting List! I’ve just finished this hat for my niece, a Spinster Slouch that I tried to modify to suit the thicker handspun (Southern Cross Fiber in Perfect Harmony). I cast on fewer stitches and subbed the 9x9 cable for a 7x8 cable, but I don’t recommend this modification at all. It’s confusing and, more importantly, incompatible with the 3x3 rib. The resulting twists and turns are neither defined nor all that symmetrical.


Ceci dit, je suis quand même satisfaite de la taille du chapeau… je suis chanceuse, je crois qu’il fera à ma nièce à merveille. La laine cardée provient de Southern Cross Fiber, la couleur se nomme Perfect Harmony, si je me souviens bien, et je l’ai filée avec 2 brins. Encore deux autres tuques à tricoter, je vais devoir m’y mettre! Et prochain item sur la liste : de jolis sous-verres mauves! 

 I’m happy with the finished hat but next time I’ll stick with a fingering yarn so that I can knit the pattern as written and avoid having to change the cabling. I prefer the original and there are thousands of hat patterns out there that would have suited this particular yarn better. Still, I think my niece will like it (I know I do!) and based on how snug it is on me it should fit her well. Next on the list : pretty purple coasters!
