French Version at Bottom of Page

RYC’s Bamboo Soft has received a lot of criticism for its tendency to split, its slipperiness (making joins rather difficult) and its lack of elasticity. But isn’t that just the fiber properties of bamboo? After reading some scathing reviews of the yarn I loathed that I’d just purchased 9 (discounted and therefore final sale) skeins of the stuff.

But you know what? I love it. I’m absolutely smitten with the feel and the drape and the hand of it. Since this is a tank and not a long-sleeved garment, I’m not overly worried about sagging at the shoulders. Instead all I feel is the most amazingly soft and silky fabric against my stomach and I honestly don’t want to take it off!

Pattern: Drawstring Bateau by Deborah Newton (from Simple Style)

Mods: I reduced the length between the ribbing and the first lace repeat because I was anticipating some stretching in the long term due to the inelasticity. It did indeed stretch the tiniest bit during blocking which impressed me. There’s plenty of room for it to stretch over time without becoming too long.
I omitted the I-cord tie under the bust for a few reasons, the main being that I was less than thrilled at the thought of knitting that much I-cord. I had planned on using a ribbon instead, but now I suspect that adding a tie under the bust would interrupt the draping effect too much.
Also, I knit the tank in the round up to the underarms (actually, that’s not true. I knit it up to the shoulders in the round. And then realized I had no arm holes and tearfully ripped back all that lace. Who’s a total tubesock? *me*)

It’s funny, I’ve always steered clear of tanks and other garments that screamed summer because I was convinced I’d get more wear out of cardigans and other cosier goods. But really, I think this FO will get the most wear of all of my finished knits!

That's lovely. You may inspire me to use up some of my inherited bamboo yarn -- I'd also grown to dislike it just a little after hearing such negative reviews. Hope your tank wears well as it looks great on you!

It looks great on you. I think I may like it better without the i-cord.
