Anastasia

 Ma belle soeur a donné naissance à une petite fille en janvier, Anastasia. Joli nom, n’est-ce pas? J’ai pris tellement de retard à lui tricoter un p’tit quelquechose qu’à la fin je me suis lancé vers la première boutique-bébé pour lui acheter des vêtements afin de calmer l’embarras de n’avoir rien à lui envoyer même après quelques semaines. Et bien elle va avoir ses trois mois la jolie Anastasia et je m’apprête juste ce soir à lui envoyer son tricot terminé.  

Une amie qui attend son tout premier m'a gentiment invité à son shower de  bébé la semaine précédente, et je les aies terminées en voiture en chemin à la fête!


Heureusement que j’avais mon appareil photo avec moi sinon je n’aurais eu aucun vestige des petites botines. Le patron s’agit de Two Needle Cable Baby Booties Knitting Pattern de Barbara Breiter. Une fois que j’ai compris qu’il fallait tourner le tricot au tout début de la rangée (et non à la fin! Oh, le mal de tête qu’une simple directive peut me causer!) elles sont super facile à effectuer ces botines. Je les ai tant aimées que j’ai décidé d’en faire une deuxième paire pour accompagner la tunique d’Anastasia. J’aime beaucoup le patron de Melissa Wastney pour Magknits. J’envisage en faire d’autres, surtout puisque la tunique s’ajuste à mesure que l’enfant grandit. La laine choisie, par contre, plus jamais! Je déteste Bernat Baby. A force de passe mes doigts par dessus la laine juste pour les mouvement nécessaires pour tricoter, déjà elle a l’air vieille et usée. 

My sister in law’s baby girl, Anastasia, was born in January. I had planned to have something cute, pink and as girly as can be on it’s way to her within her first week. Three weeks in however I realized it just wasn’t going to happen, I was only able to fit in a few minutes of knitting a week. I was already desperately trying to make this strange entrelac-and-bobble design of a baby-blanket cooking up in my head for my friend Micheline, who’s baby shower was just days away.
Convinced to tackle one project at a time, I came to my senses and started a pair of periwinkle blue booties that stood a chance of being finished before the baby shower. Just in time, too, because I ended up seaming them in the car on the way to the shower! The pattern (Two Needle Cable Baby Booties Knitting Pattern by Barbara Breiter) was super simple once I finally got it into my noggin that I had to turn the work at the BEGINNING of my row. The beauty of short rows. In the end I liked the process so much that I started another pair for baby Anastasia and picked up the matching tunic I had started earlier.
I’m happy with the tunic, but greatly with the yarn, Bernat Baby. Running my fingers over it, just the necessary movements of the knitting process resulted in a fabric that looks aged and worn, as though it had been through the washer and dryer a few dozen times. No use crying over spilled milk though, I have to mail out the outfit tonight before Anastasia outgrows it!
