Finally, a Minimalist Cardi!

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Took me long enough, eh? Two months to knit my Minimalist Cardigan. Then again, after lusting after Ruthie Nussbaum's pattern since 2007, what's eight more weeks, right? I really love this design - so simple, no frills, and it places the seed stitch front and centre. The only detail that bugs me is the curling of the border, which in hindsight would have been easy to prevent if I had just started knitting the border in the same 2x1 rib as the rest of the body! The Silk Dream yarn is a little worse for wear after months of being dragged around to school and work, but the pills don't bother me all that much, in a way they add a bit of rustic charm and counteract the polished feel that comes from the yarn's high shine (did I mention it's 50% silk? soft AND shiny!).

I didn't make any modifications to the pattern other than the sleeves, which I knit top down with short rows to shape the shoulder cap. I think I'm going to get a lot of wear out my new cardi before spring is over.  If I wasn't such a knitting slow-poke I might consider casting on right away for a second one, in a light blue or a dark ochre...

I have often wondered what is so minimalist about the Minimalist Cardi. All that Seed Stitch seems like a maxi job to me.

I love this cardi! It is going on my project list right away. Hope mine turns out as nicely as yours.
