You put the lime in the coconut...

Back in April I paid our new Anthropologie store a visit and fell hard in love with a mustard/lime-coloured cardi. I’m glad I saved a copy of the photo from the site as it’s no longer available:

I decided I wanted slightly longer and less fitted version that would look cute with jeans, hopefully in a similar colour. I’d been wanting to knit Laura Grutzeck’s Essential cardigan since I’d received my copy of Interweave Knits Summer 2010, so I tried to merge the two together. I wanted texture but no cables since I only had 9 skeins of the Ella Rae Shibu (someone please stop me from buying more cotton/silk yarns! I dislike inelasticity so so much!).


So I brought a few mods to the pattern: I lengthened the torso, swapped the stockinette for (my favorite) seed stitch, opted for full-length sleeves instead of 3/4 to bring it into fall, and added some waist shaping to make up for the slightly baggier style, not to mention the new boyish haircut! There are many, many details that bug me, such as the obvious places where I had to join a new yarn (no spit splicing cotton and I for some reason I didn't think of using Russian joins). I was going to be cutting it so close with my 9 balls of yarn that I didn't want to waste any by adding new yarns solely at the beginning of rows. Turns out I have almost a whole skein left over, but c'est la vie :)



C’était en avril que j’ai aperçu cette veste au magasin Anthropologie (qui venait tout juste d’ouvrir à Toronto - youpii!!) et que je me suis décidée de tricoter quelque chose de semblable, couleur moutarde-lime, sans torsades et un peu plus décontractée. En feuilletant ma copie de Interweave Knits Été 2010, j’ai trouvé le Essential Cardigan de Laura Grutzeck plutot à mon gout. La laine choisie, Shibu de Ella Rae, est un mélange de soie et de coton. J’ignore pourquoi je continue à acheter la laine en coton et en soie lorsque je déteste son comportement inélastique... Mais en tout cas, ça ajoute au look décontractée de la veste alors je pense que ça ira.



J’ai apporté quelques modifications au patron. J’ai allongé le torse, j’ai utiliser un point de riz car le jersey de me tentait pas et j’ai rétréci la taille pour lui donner une silhouette un peu plus féminine (pour compensé pour le look détractée et ma nouvelle coupe de cheveux à la garçonne!).
